SA Heart® 2026 Congress Convenor
The Annual SA Heart® Congress returns to Cape Town in 2026, and we are excited to invite you join us in the mother city as we explore how we can achieve Comprehensive Cardiac Care for the patients we care for.
This year’s congress has been structured to provide for a multidisciplinary track, during which local and international experts in cardiovascular medicine and basic science will share the latest insights and developments in cardiology with us, alongside a parallel paediatric cardiology track, tailored for those of us who are responsible for the care of children with cardiac disease.
A standalone learning hub will offer our special interest groups the opportunity to provide focused sessions, developed to meet the needs of our researchers, interventional, imaging and electrophysiology colleagues, with the inclusion of our cardiac surgical colleagues.
This year we aim to offer a conference that will redefine the landscape for future SA Heart® meetings, that will be
inclusive and inspire questioning, debate and discussion, and above all, empower us to continue to care for the hearts of our nation.
As a cardiac community, we are undoubtedly a small collective when compared to those of developed nations, and despite this we have proven time and time again that we are well positioned to develop and present an annual meeting of an exceptionally high standard.
The Scientific Organising Committee has been hard at work to achieve this, and we look forward to joining you at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 30 October for 3 days of learning, interaction, and the transfer of knowledge.

Dear colleagues, friends, and valued partners,
As President of the South African Heart Association, I am privileged to extend a formal welcome to you for the SA Heart® Congress 2026. We are advancing on the accomplishments of our 25-year milestone and consciously moving into a new phase characterised by greater impact, leadership, and dedication in cardiovascular care.
This year's Congress is built on a clear and unifying vision: to promote comprehensive cardiovascular care through collaboration, innovation, and system-wide integration. In line with the Congress Convenor's perspective, the programme brings together the full spectrum of cardiovascular disciplines, uniting clinicians, surgeons, scientists, and allied professionals in a genuinely multidisciplinary effort to address the rising burden of cardiovascular disease.
Importantly, this congress goes beyond scientific exchange. It aims to translate knowledge into practical, scalable solutions that can be adopted across various healthcare settings. The main focus areas include innovation in diagnostics and therapeutics, digital health and emerging technologies, strengthening health systems, and enhancing equitable access to quality cardiovascular care.
The 2026 Congress also reflects a deliberate and strategic shift towards greater structure, inclusivity, and accountability in programme design and delivery. Through a streamlined and representative Scientific Programme Committee, supported by clear frameworks for faculty engagement and resource stewardship, we aim to ensure high-quality, relevant content and meaningful participation across all sectors.
As SA Heart®, we continue to develop as a leading voice in cardiovascular advocacy, education, and policy influence, both nationally and across the African continent. This Congress, therefore, serves not only as a platform for learning but also as a call to collective action: to strengthen collaboration, foster innovation, and improve cardiovascular outcomes for all.
I sincerely thank the Congress Convenor, the Scientific Programme Committee, the Faculty, Partners, and all SA Heart® Members for their ongoing dedication and contributions.

This year the Association’s Annual Meeting returns to Cape Town, taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 30 October to 01 November.
The theme of our meeting is “Comprehensive Cardiac Care”.
The broad range of cardiac conditions demands that we acquire knowledge and experience beyond the challenge of interventional procedures. This event will focus on the growing appreciation of the meaningful interactions between cardiac diseases and metabolic, renal, respiratory and neurologic conditions and the nuances in their management.
