Abstracts Submission


The Organising Committee would like to invite submission of abstracts for the 26th Annual SA Heart® Congress 2026, to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 30 October – 1 November 2026.

Abstracts to be considered for oral or ePoster presentation (please indicate your preference).

LANGUAGE

  • Scientific English (Poorly written abstracts will not be accepted)

ABSTRACTS GUIDELINES

Include the names of all Author(s) (first name and surname). The name of the presenting Author must appear first in the list of Author(s).

Abstracts must be typed in clear, scientific English, single line spacing and the body of the text must not exceed 350 words. Avoid abbreviations unless widely accepted; define on first use.

Affiliations and institutions of all Author(s).

Contact e-mail address, contact address and contact telephone number of the first Author.

Preferred format of presentation (oral or e-Poster).

Keywords (3-5).

Funding and conflict-of-interest disclosures.

Ethics approval number.

No institution or Author(s) identifying information in the abstract text to permit a blind review.

The submitted abstract title must not exceed 25 words and must define the topic, be concise and contain no abbreviations.

The text should cover the background/hypothesis, objectives, method, results and conclusion. An adequate description of the methods and results are a prerequisite to be considered. Abstracts must contain results.

Format as follows:

  • Introduction should be brief, informative and state the aim of the study.
  • Methods: include description of subjects and research methodology.
  • Results: outline the findings of the study supported by statistics as appropriate.
  • Conclusion: provide summary and relevance of the main findings.

Submission timelines:

  • Submission opens as per the Congress Organising Committee.
  • Submission closes after 5-6 weeks.
  • Late submissions will only be accepted under exceptional circumstances and at the Committee's discretion.

NOTE: Abstracts that do not adhere to the specified format will not be published. Information pertaining to whether the material included in the Author's abstract has been published or presented before should be included as well as their preferred presentation method (oral or e-Poster) and the title of the abstract. No tables, images or graphs should be submitted.

Acceptance

Abstracts will be reviewed by the Abstracts Committee who reserves the right to accept and allocate abstracts for either oral or e-Poster presentation. Presenters will be notified if their abstract has been accepted. All presenters of accepted abstracts must be registered as Congress delegates and be willing to present at the Congress. Further abstract submission information will be provided upon submission opening.

NOTE: Once abstracts have been reviewed and allocated to either oral or e-Poster presentation, the decision is final and no Special Interest Group or presenter is allowed to change the format of submission or presentation.

Oral Presentations

There will be selected oral presentations. The official language of the congress is English.


Poster Presentations

E-Posters to be displayed at the Congress on plasma screens within the expo area at the Cape Town International Convention Centre II (CTICC 2) and presenters must be available to present in person.

Full details for the preparation of e-Posters will be included in the abstract acceptance letter.

Appeals Process

Authors may appeal only if:

  • There is evidence of procedural error.
  • A conflict of interest discovered.
  • Reviewer comments demonstrate bias.


NOTE: Appeals must be received within 7 days of notification.
